8 dead in Queensland as flood emergency continues in 2 states

Over 55,000 residents are currently in the dark.

Today in Rosalie, Milton & Auchenflower, streets turned into rivers, while parts of Brisbane received in excess of 400mm in just 24 hours.

The death toll in Queensland has risen to 8 with a man in his 50s from the Currumbin Valley pulled from the water after he drove through floodwaters at 3:00 this morning - a deadly week across the east coast.

The waters have begun receding in many parts across South-East Queensland, but now, the cleanup begins.

Combined dam levels across the South-East now sit at 96.9 - a jump of 26.7% in the past week.

Over 55,000 residents are currently in the dark and have lost power.

Meanwhile, the M1 remains cut off tonight on the Gold Coast, as the rain bomb moves south towards Lismore and northern NSW, with residents having little time to evacuate.

Channel 9 tonight reporting that around 400 people in NSW are unaccounted for.

Dark memories of 2011, 11 years on.
