AEC's Evan Ekin-Smyth reveals largest-spreading false claims about the electoral system online

Misinformation about the election spread months before it was even called.

The Australian Electoral Commission's Evan Ekin-Smyth has revealed the electoral topic that may result in the most misinformation & disinformation online.


While discussing preferential voting, Ekin-Smyth told Leonardo Puglisi that people "get it wrong" and "this idea that you can waste your vote by not really voting for the right person, and not really understanding how preferences flow."


"That's a big one for us, and we're working on correcting it as much as possible."


Ekin-Smyth also discussed the AEC's approach in regards to their Twitter account, which has gone viral & been embroiled in several controversies about how it corrects false claims.
