Did the NYT call for teachers to 'tolerate bullying towards unvaccinated children'?

The headline has been shared by several large accounts on social media.

A screenshot purports to show an opinion piece published by the New York Times that calls for school teachers to "tolerate bullying" towards kids who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19.


"Teachers should tolerate bullying towards unvaccinated children," the headline reads.


"As heartless as it may sound, it may be the only way to encourage parents to make the right choice."

The screenshot was shared by a number of accounts with large followings on social media, including by Lavern Spicer, a Republican Congressional Candidate for Florida, who has over 115K followers.


"I can hardly believe my eyes," she tweeted.

In recent weeks, the US has begun its COVID-19 vaccine rollout for kids aged 5-11, just as daily cases rise across the country & schools prepare for a year without remote learning.


When searching the exact headline word-for-word on Google & adding the NYT website address, 6 News found it was not published.


A NYT spokesperson told Reuters that the paper never published any such headline.
