6 News launches electoral projection model

JUST ANNOUNCED.

In the months since 6 News launched the AusPoll Twitter account, we've had an incredible response from followers. Aggregating polls, from federal voting intention to whatever this is, has seen AusPoll posts shared by political parties and sitting politicians.

Despite what some people will tell you – no, we don't make or commission the polls ourselves. But we have wanted to add more original content to our rapidly-growing account, which also helps to build 6 News.

That's why today, we're proud to announce that 6 News is launching an electoral projection model.

Developed over the past few months by Maggie Perry, the model gives us the ability to project a seat total for the House of Representatives based on one (or several combined) polls, as well as project state-by-state polling results when they're not provided, and – my personal favourite – look at projected individual results for every single seat.

It is genuinely hard to put into words how amazing Maggie's work is, and she deserves every bit of praise for her dedication to making this model the absolute best is can be.

It should go without saying that our model won't be 100% perfect – no electoral projection can be – but it will give a strong indication of future results in seats, show where parties have a chance of a gain, and provide projected results in states and territories that aren't covered by pollsters.
