Huntsman spider interrupts COVID-19 press conference in Queensland

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

"We've got COVID and we've got huntsman."

A huntsman spider has interrupted a COVID-19 press conference in Queensland, crawling on Health Minister Yvette D'Ath.

"Okay, can somebody please get that spider off?" she asked.

Chief Health Officer John Gerrard used several sheets of paper to try to get rid of the 8-legged intruder, as D'Ath joked that "this shows how controlled I can be."

"I don't like huntsmans, but I'm going to keep going."

"If he comes anywhere near my face, let me know."

The spider eventually crawled away, leaving the minister to declare that "we've got COVID and we've got huntsman."

It all happened yesterday as Queensland announced 22 new COVID-19 cases, following the state's reopening to interstate hotspots.
