Will people over the age of 65 not be hospitalised if they're very sick with COVID-19?

The rumour appears to have spread without a clear origin.

A rumour circulating online claims that people over the age of 65 will NOT be hospitalised if they're very sick with COVID-19 in NSW, while others have suggested that people in that age group will be denied ventilators.

6 News cannot find an exact origin for the rumour, but it has been shared or commented on by Twitter accounts with large followings - even in the hundreds of thousands.

Of course, those questioning whether it was confirmed are not themselves the original source for the claim - but they are still spreading the rumour.

It has also been commented on & shared hundreds, if not thousands, of times.

But there any evidence to support the claim?

No.

There is no proof that shows anything that we've outlined is actually happening.

While some people posting about the rumour linked it to NSW, others did not specify where it would supposedly be happening.

These kinds of viral social media users can, however, be stopped - even on a micro level - by you.
